Connect your own Google Cloud (Vertex AI)

Create a service account key in your Google Cloud project, choose an EU region and let the AI analysis of your account run in your own project.

Who this is for

For an account owner or admin with a Google Cloud project who wants the AI analysis to run in that project and be billed there. Your own key serves all AI analysis of the account. If it stops working, the analysis waits and you are told; nothing is sent to another provider.

Transcription and speaker identification stay on our own hardware in Stockholm, whatever you set.

You will need

  • A Google Cloud project with billing, where you may create a service account
  • Owner or admin rights on the Deep Thought account
  • A Premium or Enterprise account in the Web App
  • About 15 minutes
  1. Step 1 / 7

Create a service account in your project

In your Google Cloud project, make sure the Vertex AI API is enabled, then create a service account and give it access to call Vertex AI models in the project (Google's Vertex AI User role is the usual one). Give it only that access.

Google changes the names of its screens now and then, so this guide says what is needed, not where to click.

  2. Step 2 / 7

Download its key as a JSON file

Create a JSON key for the service account and download the file. It is a secret: anyone who holds it can use the account. Do not send it by e-mail or paste it in a chat. The Web App reads it in your browser and sends it once, in the request that saves it; after it is saved, Settings does not show it again.

  3. Step 3 / 7

Add it in the Web App

Open app.deep-thought.cloud, go to Settings, Your own AI key, and choose Google Vertex AI. Choose the JSON file and an EU region: Finland (europe-north1), Belgium (europe-west1) or the Netherlands (europe-west4). Other regions are not accepted. Then choose Check and save.

The key is checked when you save it, and nothing is saved if the check fails. The first key you save becomes the one that is used.

  4. Step 4 / 7

Which model runs, and who chooses it

We choose the model: one standard model per provider, the same for every account that uses it. You cannot change it yet. A model per account is planned; until it is built, tell us if you need another one.

  5. Step 5 / 7

What runs in your project, and what stays with us

The text analysis (summaries, people, decisions and the rest of the AI analysis) runs in your Google Cloud project, in the region you chose. Transcription and speaker identification run on our own hardware in Stockholm. A Vertex key lies in the EU: if your account's processing boundary is Sweden, it is widened to the EU, and Settings shows that.

  6. Step 6 / 7

What it costs, and what happens if it fails

Google bills the analysis to your Google Cloud project, on your own contract with Google. If the key stops working, for example because it was disabled or the billing stopped, the analysis waits, you are told, and nothing is sent to another provider. Fix the key, then choose Check again.

  7. Step 7 / 7

    How to stop it

Remove the key in Settings, Your own AI key, or disable or delete the service account in Google Cloud. Without a key, Premium runs on Berget in Sweden.
